Standard tenancy applies to most apartment rentals in Ontario, including condos, detached houses and apartment units in apartment buildings. Standard tenancy does not apply to commercial real estate, residential and rental units that involve university residences, retirement homes, leases and other types of RTA-exempt property. However, the Ontario government has announced that it is also working on the leasing of standard forms for some of the above exempt rental categories.
